Chicago Metallic Grid is the Ingredient for High-Performance Ceilings

Contractors, developers, and facility managers know that the right materials can elevate the design without complicating the installation. Chicago Metallic® suspension ceiling systems made by Rockfon® have been elevating designs in New York City for decades. When combined with Rockfon stone wool tiles and panels, Chicago Metallic grid can efficiently support a high-performing ceiling that lasts for generations.

Ceilings for Healthcare and the Life Sciences

Safety, cleanliness, and comfort often take priority in spaces used for healthcare and the life sciences. Since the metal in Chicago Metallic suspension systems contains no organic compounds that support mold and microbial growth, this suspended ceiling choice contributes to a healthy and durable healing environment. Kaiser Permanente’s new medical office building uses a variety of Chicago Metallic ceiling products to meet the project’s aesthetic and performance goals. This space features Rockfon Artic®, Alaska®, and Hygienic Plus™ acoustic stone wool ceiling panels and Chicago Metallic suspension systems, including 4500 Ultraline™ 9/16″. A Chicago Metallic suspended ceiling grid meets a Class-A flame spread rating in accordance with ASTM standard E1264-08.

The Choice for Ceiling Tiles in Offices

Akamai Technologies Global Headquarters utilized several types of Rockfon acoustical ceiling tiles, and Chicago Metallic ceiling suspension systems were used in many spaces to match the panels’ colors. In total, more than 292,500 square feet of metal ceiling grid was installed. The suspension systems are manufactured with recycled content, and at the end of their useful life on a building, they are 100% recyclable. Specifying recycled and recyclable materials further supported the building’s green goals, including USGBC LEED Gold and WELL certification.

Innovative Application in Education Build

When the community sought to build a new school fieldhouse, Cushing School District knew they would need products that provided an attractive appearance without compromising durability and performance. The team selected several Chicago Metallic products for the acoustic ceiling system to accomplish this.

For the fieldhouse, ceiling durability was a necessity, as the space needed to withstand constant student use. Over 600 Rockfon Planostile 2-by-2-foot galvanized steel ceiling panels with lay-in reveal edges were installed into the Chicago Metallic 4000 Tempra 9/16-inch suspension ceiling system. The panels and grid were finished in Satin Silver to complete the polished look. The new facility supports up to 80 players and offers a football locker room, coaches’ offices, training room, video room, and storage.
